The Lincoln's Inn Society, founded in 1907, is the only social club at Harvard Law School. For almost a century, it has been the place where law students could lay down the burden of their studies and relax. Lincoln's Inn provides many with good times, close friendships, and their favorite memories from HLS.

Lincoln's Inn is famous for its Winter Formal and Spring Fling, black-tie events featuring dinner and dancing. Inn members also get together for Thursday night dinners, poker nights, barbecues, and Red Sox games. The Inn itself is an historic three-story Victorian house located across the street from the Law School campus. The house's amenities include three fireplaces, a pool table, a foosball table, a refurbished sports bar, and beer on tap at all times. All members receive keys and full access to the Inn during its operating hours.

Above all, Lincoln's Inn serves as the perfect place to meet people and develop close ties to other students. Joining the Inn offers 1Ls the opportunity to meet 2Ls and 3Ls, as well as other 1Ls outside their section. The Inn's relaxed and comfortable atmosphere is a great way to escape the stresses of first-year law school. The friendships you make at the Inn last a lifetime.

The members of the Inn are a richly diverse group of women and men from a wide variety of backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of the Law School campus.

During Orientation, watch for membership events open to all students. We hope you will stop by and learn more about us, and we look forward to sharing some of these great times with you during the upcoming year.

Congratulations on your acceptance to Harvard Law School! We know you're inundated with information about all kinds of journals, activities and organizations, so we'll make this quick:

The Lincoln's Inn Society is the first, and only, social club at HLS.

We have an open membership policy, which means that all 1Ls are invited to and able to join, so long as they pay the membership fee (and want to have some fun!).

The Inn occupies a Victorian house at 44 Follen Street, directly across the street from Pound Hall. (But if you're still confused by Cambridge's nonsensical street layout, we've provided a map.) A membership gives you a key with full access to the house, as well as Inn social events throughout the year. Some highlights include:

  • Fully-stocked, open bar always available,
  • Upstairs lounge with pool table,
  • Big-screen TV with satellite channels,
  • Theme parties, including "Heaven and Hell," Oktoberfest, and ARound the World,
  • A free ticket to the Winter Dinner, a black-tie formal held at the end of the fall semester,
  • Harvard/Yale Game Tailgate,
  • Regular events including Thursday night dinners, wine tastings, and the like, and,
  • Non-law school guests you may have in town may enter and enjoy the house for free,

Throughout this century, the Inn has been the place at Harvard Law School to relax and form friendships that will last a lifetime.
